On 23rd of July 2019 England announced the women squad for Ashes cup that is to be played in near future. For the upcoming Ashes T20I women’s cup, 15 members’ team has been announced. The T20I tournament is the last round or the final part of the multi-format Ashes series that is to be played between England and Australia.
Heather Knight is going to be the skipper while Essex’s Mady Villiers is going to join the team for the first time. Villiers was successfully able to impress the selection committee by her cricket skills during the recent series played between Women’s Academy and Australia A. The rest of the squad includes Katherine Brunt, Tammy Beaumont, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, Jenny Gunn, Georgia Elwiss, Danni Wyatt, Amy Jones, Nat Sciver, Laura Marsh, Sarah Taylor, Mady Villiers, Anya Shrubsole, and Lauren Winfield.
After the only test match that resulted in a draw England might not be able to regain the Ashes cup but if they are able to win all the T20 matches they might be able to draw the series with Australia. England is still trailing Australia by 8-2, and the only hope left is to win the T20 matches and draw the series. Australia has already won all the one day matches that gained them 6 points and the draw test gave them 2 more points that made them shine with 8 points. In the first one day match England made 177 all out in 50 overs and Australia made 178/8 and won the match by two wickets. In the second one day played on 4th of July England made 217 and lost all the wickets but in reply to this score Australia made 218 at loss of 6 wickets. In the third one day international match played between Australia and England on 7th July for the Ashes series England was very poor in batting and was not able to chase the Australian score of 269/7 and was all out on just 75 runs. The collapse of England batting line up has made people think about the changes that the England Women’s team might need to improve their game.
Earlier in the test match Australia made 420/8 and declared, after which the England team made 199/6 and was needing 72 runs to avoid follow on. According to the experts the English team has used the dead-bat tactics that were not at all favorable for winning the game. The batting line of England team collapsed much faster than that of Australia.
Though the only test match that was played between Australia and England was drawn with which all the chances of England retaining the Ashes cup faded away, drawing the series with Australia is only possible if England is able to defeat Australia in all T20 matches which is next to impossible with Australia having the best women cricketers of the world.
The T20 international series will start on the 26th of July with Australia leading the series.
