After a Tremendous Game England Wins The World Cup Final
Last night the spectators that were sitting in the jam packed stadium of Lords witnessed the cricket history being made by the two teams of outstanding cricket players of England and New Zealand. If I am not wrong it can be called a sudden death match in which the players of both the teams displayed the best of their skills. Both the teams were under a lot of pressure as it was the first chance of winning the cup for both the teams. The spectators were not only gathered at the Lords stadium, there were thousands of viewers who were enjoying the game at the Trafalgar square.
At the start of the final match between England and New Zealand, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat. In the past the team of New Zealand was known to have only the ability to achieve small targets and they are not used to chasing big ones. In the first innings New Zealand made 241 runs at a loss of 8 wickets. If we look at the batting side of New Zealand we see that Nicholls was the highest scorer who made 55 runs only. The bowlers were successful in taking all the ten wickets Neesham being the best of all as he took 3 for 43.
The English team had already faced a lot of decline in their position in overall position and the world cup matches. They were fortunate enough to reach the finals and were determined to win the match by giving their 100% to the game. In response to the 241 runs of New Zealand they started their innings in quite a positive manner. Ben Stokes did an outstanding job with the bat when he made 85 runs and Buttler contributed 59 to make it possible for the team to chase the score. Among the English bowlers Woakes was the best as he took 3 wickets for 37 runs only. It was a neck to neck match in which the whole crowd sat in pin drop silence keeping their fingers crossed, praying for their favorites to win. Right till the last over with Ben Stokes still on the crease, the England team was thinking that they had already won the match when their wickets fell and they equalized the score at loss of 10 wickets. Till the last ball of the game it was just anybody’s game but after the scores were equalized, the super over option had to be used to determine the winner of the game.
It is the first time in the last 44 years of world cup cricket that after reaching the finals, the England team has won the match. The whole game was full of excitement and nerve shattering tension with constant upsets. One moment the game was in favor of the New Zealand team and the other moment it was In England’s favor. The spectators were dumbfounded in the super over when England made 15 and Ben Stokes became their hero. There were a lot of emotional meltdowns when in the end the New Zealand supporters saw their favorites losing the game they had almost won.
For the first time in the cricket world cup history the final match between England and New Zealand resulted in a draw. There are many people who think that the decision of the winning team should have been made by judging the fall of wickets instead of making both the teams play a super over.
We hope that ICC will make some changes in their laws and make them as just as possible.
