Pakistan Winning The Game Against Bangladesh Yet Losing The Chance To Play Semi-Finals

In the last group match of the cricket world cup 2019 which was played against Bangladesh, Pakistan won the match by 94 runs. Unfortunately, the victory against Bangladesh was not enough to help the Pakistan cricket team enter the second round in which the selected teams will be playing the semi-finals. It was the luck and hard work of the New Zealand team that took them to the semi-finals on the basis of their net run rate.

According to the cricket experts the Sarfaraz Ahmed’s team needed to win a match with extra-ordinary margin in order to enter the semi-final round. Looking at the track record of the team it was quite a big challenge and after winning the toss the team set out to bat first and made 315 for the loss of 9 precious wickets. To keep the dream of entering the super four Pakistan had to restrict the Bangladesh team to only eight runs to win the match with as much margin as was required to enter the next round of matches and it was impossible to win with a huge margin. The Pakistan team had to break the record of the most runs in a one day match so, after all the efforts by the team Pakistan could make only 315.

If Bangladesh could make 8 runs only they would end Pakistan’s hopes of entering the semi-finals and that’s exactly what happened.

Their total of 315 for nine meant Bangladesh needed only eight runs to end Pakistan’s hopes of progress at the tournament and they reached that in the second over.

The young and talented bowler Shaheen Afridi worked hard to secure his place permanently in the Pakistan cricket team as he took six wickets and took his team to the victory stand. After this match Pakistan had secured 11 points and had won 5 games. The only drawback that became the reason for not entering the second round of semifinal matches for the Pakistan team was their low run rate throughout the world cup.

Though getting support of thousands of cricket fans, Pakistan made a very slow start in the match with making only 38 runs in the first 10 overs on the loss of one wicket. The game picked up its pace when Imam-ul-Haq made 100 followed by Baber Azam’s 96. Both the players made a partnership of 150 runs for the second wicket but both the players got out with gap of a few minutes and it broke the tempo out of the game. Later in the game tremendous batting by Imaad Wasim added 43 runs on 26 balls to the innings to improve the score, but all these efforts were not enough to score the runs that were needed to get to the semi-finals.

If we take a look at the performance of Bangladesh Mustafeez-u- Rahman took 5 wickets for Bangladesh. He even took the wicket of Shadab Khan with caught and bowled. Among the batsmen Shakib Al Hasan scored 64 which were his seventh 50 in the world cup. He broke the batting record of Sachin Tendulkar’s most 50’s of the world cup.

The teams that have qualified for the next round of semi-final matches are Australia, England and India. The final group matches will be played on Saturday.
