New Zealand vs. West Indies – West Indies Lost the Epic Battle by 5 Runs – Match Review:
In 2019 World Cup of New Zealand vs. West Indies, Wes Indies lost the epic battle just by 5 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester on June 22 where Carlos’s late cameo failed to take over the line in a chase of 292 runs. He secured the sensational 101 off 82 balls and sealed the deals, almost, for the West Indies but Neesham got the all-rounder out in the penultimate over to prize New Zealand with their fifth victory in the 2019 tournament. Kane secured the highest score for New Zealand with 148 runs from 154 deliveries.
Some Top Highlights
West Indies was everything but the defeat at beautiful 164 for 7, chasing 292 to win Williamson recovered from 7-2 with his best 148.
Brathwaite launched Neesham, however with 6 needed from 7 balls, in hope to be a winning hit, only for Boult to take the catch in the long-on boundary. He was despaired after falling for 101 off only 82 balls, along with 5 sixes and 9 fours, dominating a last-wicket stand of 41 where he scored all his runs.
Victory found New Zealand on the peak and they made their place in the semi-finals giving a heart-breaking defeat to West Indies on the edge of elimination.
William says, “The West Indies are incredibly dangerous, even down their own order. Credit to them, but credit to our side for getting a competitive total.”
Chris Gayle, the veteran opener, threatened to have New Zealand pay for dropping him three times in a typically harsh 87 off only 84 balls. However, he holed out eventually during a collapse that had lost 5 wickets for 22 runs in 28 balls.
Hope, the stand-in opener, batted up front following Lewis’s inability to partner Gayle after getting injured and off the field for Most New Zealand’s innings, he played on to Boult for only one; the first wicket for an awesome 4-30 in just 10 overs for Gayle was dropped on 15 when Boult desperately knocked down the chance off Matt Henry as the ball got dropped over his shoulder.
